Latin

12:20 – 1:05 PM

Class Description: The goal of this Latin class is to introduce the students to a new language and to increase the students’ English vocabulary, as over 60% of English is derived from Latin (and Greek).  This class is more informal than rigorous; vocabulary words are taught through games or art.  Students will be given new vocabulary words each week with the hope that learning them during the week will become a family affair. By the end of the school year, the students should easily know 50 Latin words and English derivatives of same.

Students will learn about famous artists from different eras, be introduced to art vocabulary, and create amazing projects using a variety of media. Homework will be very minimal, if any, and will be optional.

Music & Drama

2:00 – 2:45 PM

Class Description: This class is primarily about developing skills in drama, music, and choreographed movement in preparation for this year’s production, Doctor Dolittle, based on the book The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting. Students will put on one main-stage production for family and friends. We will be playing drama games, singing, dancing, and learning how to project our voices, become believable, have stage confidence, and also learn some basic music theory. Students are expected to memorize lines at home, attend the dress rehearsal and the production.

Please note: If students are not able to attend the production for vacation or other reasons they may attend the class, but need to let us know ASAP so they are not casted in a role.

Teachers: Katie Howard & Bobbi Pangborn

Physical Education

2:50 – 3:35 PM

Class Description: In PE class we strive to give our students a healthy dose of exercise through a variety of interactive games. We encourage godly competition, and team work. Above all we teach that our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Ghost and should be treated accordingly. For the first five minutes of class every year we learn something about how God the Creator designed these human vessels. This year we will be learning/reviewing the scientific names of our muscles and bones.

Please note: Students should wear appropriate shoes, and clothes for PE. Sneaker style shoes, and for those girls that prefer dresses, they will need to wear shorts under them. Please bring water bottles to class.
