Ron and Jeanne DeHaas
Founders
Ron and Jeanne DeHaas started Coram Deo 17 years ago and continue to teach and serve as board members. They homeschooled four of their own children through high school and have helped countless families with the homeschooling process. Ron is a PhD candidate in geology and teaches many of the upper-level science courses. He is the founder, retired CEO, and now Chairman of the Board for Covenant Eyes, a computer software company providing accountability and filtering. Ron serves as an elder at Community Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Owosso. He is also on the board for the National Center on Sexual Exploitation. Jeanne has a college degree in Christian Education. Besides schooling her own children, she has fulfilled various roles in the church involving teaching kids. She served as the Christian Education Director at Community EPC for many years. Jeanne enjoys sharing her love of history with the Coram Deo students. Ron and Jeanne are invested in serving the church, serving their family, and serving the homeschool community.
Janelle Compton
Chairman of the Board
For the past 20 years, Janelle Compton has been a full-time homeschool mom to four children, fulfilling her passion for teaching. All four of her kids have graduated high school. She also taught Sunday School for 9 years and led an education co-op for over 40 families. For the past 19 years she has served as administrator of their family business. In 2022, she had the honor to step in and serve as Deputy Treasurer for Woodhull Township, for six months, due to the previous deputy resigning. This year she and her husband, Brian, will be celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary! She is so excited to be helping support Coram Deo as a board member!
Todd Evans
Board Member
Todd Evans is a third generation pastor, although not by choice (God forced him!). Todd has a BS in Social Studies/Secondary Education from Taylor University and spent his first few years out of college teaching middle school and high school social studies as well as coaching basketball. God then pulled Todd into the ministry. He has a Masters in Ministerial Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University and has gotten about a third of the way through a Masters in Practical Theology. He has been a youth pastor, music pastor, and now a senior pastor for nearly 18 years. Since 2017, he has served as chaplain for the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office. In all that time Todd earned a 4th degree black belt in Cha Yun Do as well as training in Krav Maga.
Casey Martens
Board Member
Casey has been married to her husband, Erik, for 23 years, and together they have six children, two of whom have graduated after being homeschooled. Their family has been part of Coram Deo for nearly fourteen years, where Casey has joyfully served as Nursery Coordinator for over a decade. Casey has homeschooled for over fifteen years and is passionate about helping preserve the Christ-centered, classical vision that has made Coram Deo such a meaningful part of her family's story. At Graham Church, she serves in Awana, the coffee ministry, and the special needs ministry, and also enjoys serving alongside a close friend through cleaning and organizing projects for families. Casey is grateful for God's faithfulness throughout every season of life and considers it a privilege to continue serving the families of Coram Deo. Her prayer is that, whether in her home, church, or community, everything she does would point others to Christ and bring glory to God.
